About Raj Bhavan

Raj Bhavan of Ooty is the Summer residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu, It is positioned in the city of Ooty, Tamil Nadu. In 1876, the authorities determined to purchase Upper Norwood and Lower Norwood, which belonged to the trustees of Lawrence Asylum and commenced efforts for the status quo of the Government House at Ootacamund. The Duke of Buckingham, who initiated the acquisition, took ownership of each the Upper and Lower Norwood and the Garden Cottage. But after a single live, the Governor become satisfied that the Upper Norwood changed into not a in shape abiding area for the Governor. Soon after returning to Madras, the Duke proposed the constructing of a big two storeyed building that may have the funds for whole lodging for the own family and provide public reception rooms.

In 1899, a Ball room with an ante-room was delivered to the Government House and in 1904 electrical set up for the entire premises became accredited and installed. During the duration of production of the Government House, The Duke of Buckingham resided at Upper Norwood and changed into constantly examining the paintings, altering the plans and making recommendations. Sir Arthur Havelock significantly advanced the interior of the original constructing especially the very first-class and good-looking Ball room. After Independence, the Government House became renamed as Raj Bhavan.
