About Divine Sojourn to Kamakhya Temple, Assam

Atop Nilachal Hill at approximately 800 feet above the sea level, you can easily locate Kamakhya Temple in Assam, India. The temple is dedicated to goddess Kamakhya, an incarnation of Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva. It is a legendary shakti shrine associated with Sati and the place where her temple is constructed is basically highlights her reproductive organ that fell at the time when her dead body was being carried by Lord Shiva and was then sliced into pieces by Lord Vishnu. The bewitching architecture of the temple encompasses the figurines of its maker, inscriptions and alluring images of Ganesha. As such no image of Shakti is formed but yes a mysterious chamber down the series of step can be seen here converting it into a natural cave. However, inside its corner lies a revered sculptured image of the Yoni of the Goddess.. The history of the temple says that the entire temple formation was badly crushed by the Muslim invaders. But, then King Nara Narayana, of Cooch Bihar reestablished it for normal public gaze. Since then several group of devotees with goats have been coming her to worship Shakti. Apart from main Devi temple, other temples to catch your eye balls are the devi Kali, Tara, Bagala, Chinnamasta, Bhuvanesi, etc. Plus, temple of ious goddess y from the Sitala Temple to the Lalita Kanta Temple to the Smasanakali temple to the kail temple of Abhayananda dharmashala, and many more. The Kamakhya complex also homes five Lord Shiv temples and three Lord Vishnu shrines. Regretfully, in spite of such name and fame across the globe, it is under threat owing to illegal encroachments and land disputes.
